François de Brussel
(Spa, 1979)
Lives and works in Brussels
At the heart of François de Brussel’s work lies a thorough examination of sensuality, spirituality and the human condition. Drawing inspiration from the city of Brussels and painters such as Breughel and Magritte, Francois reinterprets classical (religious) themes and translates them into contemporary realities. His art is a reflection of the belief that art, diversity, and human connection are essential forces that can unite us in a shared vision of beauty and vulnerability. A hint of surrealism in his work leaves the viewer wondering is this real? Through photography, collage, embroidery, video and (song) writing, he creates atmospheres of slight strangeness, surprising the spectator with his suggestive ideas.
